McMahon's Match Play Series

McMahon’s Knockout Series Match Play Event

The Scottsdale Golf League will be hosting a Match Play event to be played out over a 4 month time period. Mike McMahon, in honor of his father, will be sponsoring this event. The format will be as follows:

  • There will be two match play qualifying events played at Southern Dunes on January 10th and February 21st. Your best score of the 2 events will be used to determine the top 32 qualifiers. If you qualify, you will be given the opportunity to play in the match play series. If you decline to play, the 33rd qualifier will be given the opportunity to play. We will continue the process until 32 qualifiers have signed up.
  • There will be a $50 buy in. Each round you win earns you $50 until the final match play finals. The winner of the finals will receive $500 ($50 for 5 match wins + $250 bonus) and the loser will receive $300 ($50 for 5 matches + $50 bonus).
  • Matches will be played during the Sunday tournaments. We understand that match play strategy differs from stroke play, so if you prefer not to play your match under a stroke play format you may choose to forgo the event.
  • You will have a maximum of three (3) weeks to complete each round. With 6 rounds, the match play event should take about 4 months to complete. If you cannot commit to play over this time period you should consider declining the event or you will forfeit if you cannot complete your match within the desired timeframe.
  • There will be four flights, divided by handicaps. Each flight will be seeded by how you finished in the qualifier. Ties will be determined by scorecard playoff. Flight A will play Flight B and Flight C will play Flight D in the semi-finals.
  • Scoring will be kept on the golfgameskeeper app. League handicaps at the time the match is played will be used.
  • When a match is scheduled, players will need to notify the Rules & Handicap Chairman and request a pairing during a regular league event.
  • Holes or putts may be conceded, but players will need to play out the hole for tournament scoring purposes.
  • The winner will notify the league of the outcome and the match results will be posted on the SGL website.
  • There will be NO Montlake points distributed for this series.
  • In addition to the $50 buy in, there will be an additional $1,800 added to the purse, compliments of Mike McMahon and contributions from other sponsorships.
